We began our morning by working on our stories-- they are looking better and better everyday! After recess, we had some quiet working time and story conferences, followed by phys ed. After lunch, we enjoyed Francais with Mme. Pallesen, and played some math games. We finished the day in a grade one superstorm with Mrs. Morin's special guest-- Paulo! He taught us songs that help us learn about Calgary's history and prepare us for next week's Urban Community Tour!
Recess:
As we get closer to summer, and the days are getting hotter, please make sure to send your child with a hat and sunscreen for those really hot days-- students are still expected to go outside for recess, and even 15 minutes can seem long when you're in the hot hot sun!
Math Evening:
Here is a math evening for those parents who may be interested. Unlocking the Potential of Every Student in Mathematics tonight at Rundle Academy 6:30 to 8:30. Presenters:
- Where's the Math in Multiplication? Geri Lorway (Thinking101)
- Where's the Math in STEM? Gina Cherkowski (Stemlab, Calgary)
- Making Math, Engineering Music! Pratim Sengupta, U of Calgary
Book Donations:
The families of Beacon Hill School in Fort McMurray have lost everything. Their principal, Garrett Tebay and her librarian, have asked for our support. They would like to help their families rebuild their home libraries. Prince of Wales can help!! Clean out your bookshelves, order some new books from Scholastic or stop by your local bookstore. Please drop off NEW or Gently Used books at the school. Mrs. Tebay will pick them up when she is in Calgary and deliver them. Thank you for your help!
Please and Thank You / Volunteer Opportunities:
- We would love to have morning reading volunteers to share books with students one-on-one, from 8:30-9:00 any day that it works for you!
1) The grade one Urban Community Tour will be on Tuesday, June 14. This is a while away, but we are hoping for 10-12 volunteers to make it as smooth an experience as possible. It is always a highlight for grade one students and parents, so we hope you can join us!
Library:
Library books are now due back for the end of the year, so our librarian can go through our stock and make sure we have everything! The first class to return their books wins a prize, so please send those books back as soon as possible!
