Phew! Another week flew by! We started our morning with a special guest speaker, Joy, who came in and talked to us about how Social Workers help bring communities together by planning events and connecting people! We then had Francais with Mme. Pallesen, and spent some time cleaning and organizing our desks. After that, it was time for PoWer Hour!
Next Wednesday (May 4) is our spring walk to the ridge and we need 3-4 volunteers-- if you would be available to come with us, please send me ([email protected]) or Jodi ([email protected]) an email! Thank you!
Idea Lab:
The grade 1's will be heading into the Idea Lab on Monday to continue construction on their community building models!
We would appreciate any material donations (especially cardboard) that could be brought in before Monday to ensure we have enough materials for everyone!
Gum in Room 8:
We have allowed "thinking gum" in the classroom to be used as a focussing tool during quiet work times, but we are finding that it is being a distraction to the learning process in the classroom. We are requesting that gum be left at home from now on.
Celebration of Learning: Thursday, May 5
We are busy learning about different things to build our community and we would like to share them with you on this evening. There are two parts to this celebration. The first one will be in the classroom to share from 6:00 – 6:30pm and then we will go to the gym to share our songs and dances from 6:30 – 7:00pm.
We would like the students to dress up as their favourite community helper. This does not have to match the building your child has chosen to build.
Please and Thank You / Volunteer Opportunities:
- We would love to have morning reading volunteers to share books with students one-on-one, from 8:30-9:00 any day that it works for you!
1) Students will continue building their community models in the Idea Lab on Monday, May 2 from 1:15 to 2:30. We would very much appreciate volunteer support during these exciting, engaging, and bustling times!
2) We are looking for 3 or 4 volunteers to join us on a lovely and relaxing walk to the Ridge on Wednesday, May 4 at 1:15 pm, to observe seasonal changes of spring.
3) We are also looking for volunteers to accompany our full day field trip on Tuesday, May 17 to the Grain Academy and Stampede Grounds to learn about our community's rural past.
4) We would gratefully welcome 4 volunteers to join us on a Suburban Community Tour around our school's neighborhood on Monday, June 6.
5) The grade one Urban Community Tour will be on Tuesday, June 14. This is a while away, but we are hoping for 10-12 volunteers to make it as smooth an experience as possible. It is always a highlight for grade one students and parents, so we hope you can join us!

Our Library day is Thursday, and many of our students have books out that are long overdue! Please remember to bring back any books that have been taken out of the Library for next Thursday (remember, you can renew books you really want to keep reading!). Thank you!
