Highlights of the Day:
We had a wonderful time at the Grain Academy today! After arriving at the Stampede Grounds, our class was split in half-- with one group going into the Grain Academy first, and the other having the chance to explore the Stampede Grounds for the morning. During the Grain Academy portion of our trip, we learned a lot about rural Alberta and how farmers used to grow crops! We also got the chance to see a moving train model, as well as try our hands at grounding wheat seeds into flour! On the Stampede Grounds tour, we saw many interesting pieces of art, many depicting important events from Calgary's history. We also had the opportunity to sketch and journal about what we were seeing! A big thank you to our fantastic volunteers who came with us and made this amazing field trip possible!
The families of Beacon Hill School in Fort McMurray have lost everything. Their principal, Garrett Tebay and her librarian, have asked for our support. They would like to help their families rebuild their home libraries. Prince of Wales can help!! Clean out your bookshelves, order some new books from Scholastic or stop by your local bookstore. Please drop off NEW or Gently Used books at the school. Mrs. Tebay will pick them up when she is in Calgary and deliver them. Thank you for your help!
Gum in Room 8:
We have allowed "thinking gum" in the classroom to be used as a focussing tool during quiet work times, but we are finding that it is being a distraction to the learning process in the classroom. We are requesting that gum be left at home from now on.
Please and Thank You / Volunteer Opportunities:
- We would love to have morning reading volunteers to share books with students one-on-one, from 8:30-9:00 any day that it works for you!
1) We would gratefully welcome 4 volunteers to join us on a Suburban Community Tour around our school's neighborhood on Monday, June 6.
2) The grade one Urban Community Tour will be on Tuesday, June 14. This is a while away, but we are hoping for 10-12 volunteers to make it as smooth an experience as possible. It is always a highlight for grade one students and parents, so we hope you can join us!
Library:
Our Library day is Thursday, and many of our students have books out that are long overdue! Please remember to bring back any books that have been taken out of the Library for next Thursday (remember, you can renew books you really want to keep reading!). Thank you!
Mail Pockets:
- No new mail today.
- Home Reading bags went home if returned.
