Highlights of the Day:
Welcome back! We began our morning with an amazing assembly, where we had the opportunity to hear a student from the Ted Talks PoWer Hour give a speech about her brother and how he inspires her! We spent the rest of our morning writing in our journals, and editing our work for capitals and periods! After recess, we worked together to build words out of a long scrambled word (and wow, did we ever build a lot of words!) and finally figured out that the long word was cheetahs! After lunch, we read together in our guided reading groups, then used our "Mental Math Strategies" to help us when playing "Salute"! We finished the day by checking in on our plants and sketching them in our visual journals!
Math Evening:
Here is a math evening for those parents who may be interested. Unlocking the Potential of Every Student in Mathematics June 9 at Rundle Academy 6:30 to 8:30. Presenters:
Milk Orders:
The last day students will receive milk will be Thursday, June 2.
Book Donations:
The families of Beacon Hill School in Fort McMurray have lost everything. Their principal, Garrett Tebay and her librarian, have asked for our support. They would like to help their families rebuild their home libraries. Prince of Wales can help!! Clean out your bookshelves, order some new books from Scholastic or stop by your local bookstore. Please drop off NEW or Gently Used books at the school. Mrs. Tebay will pick them up when she is in Calgary and deliver them. Thank you for your help!
Please and Thank You / Volunteer Opportunities:
- We would love to have morning reading volunteers to share books with students one-on-one, from 8:30-9:00 any day that it works for you!
1) We would gratefully welcome 4 volunteers to join us on a Suburban Community Tour around our school's neighborhood on Monday, June 6.
2) The grade one Urban Community Tour will be on Tuesday, June 14. This is a while away, but we are hoping for 10-12 volunteers to make it as smooth an experience as possible. It is always a highlight for grade one students and parents, so we hope you can join us!
Library:
Our Library day is Thursday, and many of our students have books out that are long overdue! Please remember to bring back any books that have been taken out of the Library for next Thursday (remember, you can renew books you really want to keep reading!). Thank you!
Mail Pockets:
- No new mail today.
- Home Reading bags went home if returned.
