Highlights of the Day:
Only two weeks left! We began our morning with some quiet journalling time, and when we finished writing, we traded books with a partner and edited each other's work for capitals and periods! After recess, we made words out of the scrambled letters of "railroads"! In phys ed., we had fun playing a new "Capture the Flag" like game! After lunch, we had a class meeting about kindness and working together, and brainstormed ideas of how to make our classmates feel cared for and included. We then did a partner drawing activity, where one person had to direct the other what to draw, using just their words! We are missing our music time tomorrow (due to the field trip), so Mrs. Dennill kindly took all the grade one classes for music today!
For tomorrow's field trip, please be sure to pack:
- water bottle
- hat
- sunscreen
- good shoes
- dress for the weather – light jacket
- snacks and lunch
- backpack
Recess:
As we get closer to summer, and the days are getting hotter, please make sure to send your child with a hat and sunscreen for those really hot days-- students are still expected to go outside for recess, and even 15 minutes can seem long when you're in the hot hot sun!
Book Donations:
The families of Beacon Hill School in Fort McMurray have lost everything. Their principal, Garrett Tebay and her librarian, have asked for our support. They would like to help their families rebuild their home libraries. Prince of Wales can help!! Clean out your bookshelves, order some new books from Scholastic or stop by your local bookstore. Please drop off NEW or Gently Used books at the school. Mrs. Tebay will pick them up when she is in Calgary and deliver them. Thank you for your help!
Please and Thank You / Volunteer Opportunities:
- We would love to have morning reading volunteers to share books with students one-on-one, from 8:30-9:00 any day that it works for you!
1) The grade one Urban Community Tour will be on tomorrow. We are hoping for 10-12 volunteers to make it as smooth an experience as possible. It is always a highlight for grade one students and parents, so we hope you can join us!
Library:
Library books are now due back for the end of the year, so our librarian can go through our stock and make sure we have everything! The first class to return their books wins a prize, so please send those books back as soon as possible!
Mail Pockets:
- Our amazing bean plants went home today!
- Home Reading bags went home if returned.
Upcoming Dates:
Daily Challenge:
What is one safety rule we need to follow to stay safe and have fun on tomorrow's field trip?
