Our class is going on an all day field trip tomorrow to the Arts Commons! If you have not sent in your consent forms by tomorrow morning, your child will not be able to come!
Tomorrow, your child will need:
- A packed lunch (with snacks they can eat on the go)
- water bottle – It can come to school empty and then we can fill it up when we get to the Arts Commons
- backpack to carry everything (journal and pencil case)
Parent volunteers:
- Make sure you bring a lunch, snacks, and I will supply you with a journal and pencils
- Please be at the school by 9:15 to find out who is in your group
South4 – Collaboration with 3 other schools in the south
The teachers of these four schools have been collaborating to extend our practice as a group. We wanted to start with an activity to engage the students into a rich task to be shared and discussed with the other teachers.
We used the book "The North Star" (by Peter Reynolds) and some pictures of myself from when I was in grade one, to help us think about how people change over time, how much we have already changed, and how we might continue to change and grow in the future. We then wrote letters to our "future selves" telling them about us, and asking them about the changes we think (or hope) have happened in the future.
Highlights of the Day:
We had an action-packed day today leading up to our field trip tomorrow! We had another Who Do You Tell presentation first thing this morning, and we learned the last verse to our song! We then had drumming (always a blast!) after recess. We learned about a new art form today-- Zentangling! We started our own Zentangles (after looking at some examples) and have them ready to work on if we finish any of our journalling early tomorrow! In phys. ed., we played our passing and shooting ringette game again! After lunch, we had another drumming session (since we will miss one tomorrow). We finished the day by reading the beautiful book "The North Star" by Peter Reynolds, which is about the journey of a young boy as he grows up and discovers he must decide his own path for himself-- no one else can tell him where his goals and dreams should lie. We then discussed how we have changed since coming to grade one, and how much more we might change in the future. We wrote letters to our "future selves" telling them about us, asking them about what has changed, and what we hope might still be the same.
