We started our day by reading a new poem "Dance of the Falling Leaf" and writing down words that described what the leaf looked like as it was falling (dancing, twirling, shooting down like a rocket!). We then practiced writing our bounce letters in kinetic sand! After recess, we had literacy centres, followed by gym! After lunch, we learned another new poem the "Fall Rap", and went to Music. After music, we read another chapter in our novel (Magic Tree House), and drew pictures of what we thought the main characters-- Jack and Annie-- looked like. We finished the day by answering one of our questions about fall-- Why do leaves change colours? Turns out, that leaves are yellow and orange all year round! It's just the chlorophyll in the leaves that covers the other colours up with green during the spring and summer!
Remember, we have Power Hour tomorrow!
Book Fair:
There will be no library book exchanges next week, as we will have a Book Fair set up in the Library for the Parent-Teacher conferences. We will be going to have a preview during our library time on Thursday and then books can be purchased Thursday evening and Friday morning. A portion of the book purchases go towards adding to our own school library.
Students cannot purchase books during the preview, but can make a wish list. This wish list is for books we want to have but it is our parents who decide which books we get.
Please and Thank You
- Please consider contributing a pumpkin for the week of October 26-29. (To avoid rotting pumpkins, it is best if they come to school no sooner than this Friday!) We will be exploring estimation and measurement through some very fun pumpkin math! I am hoping to collect 5 or 6 pumpkins, a variety of shapes and sizes. Thanks very much for considering!
Volunteer Opportunities:
- We will be crafting rekenrek math tools this Thursday afternoon (the 22nd) at 2:00PM. Lots of fun, but involving lots of small beads, so an extra volunteer would be most welcome!
Mail Pockets:
- No new notices were sent home, so mail pockets stayed at school.
Library Books:
Our class visits the Learning Commons on Thursday mornings. If your child would like to exchange their current book for a new one, please return by Thursday.
Upcoming Dates:
- Oct. 21-22 – Scholastic Book Fair
- Oct. 22-23 – Parent/Teacher Conferences
- Oct. 30 – PD Day – NO SCHOOL
- Nov. 24 – Field Trip – Arts Commons
Daily Challenge:
In our book, the main characters are a brother and sister named Jack and Annie. Jack loves to read, follow the rules, and think things through. Annie is more adventurous, doesn't always think ahead, and loves to play make-believe games. Who are you more like, Jack or Annie? Why?
