Highlights of the Day:
This morning the grade ones did a remarkable job practicing their bounce letters, this time on paper, and had fun creating pictures out of the letters! Afterward we went to the book fair and the students wrote down wish lists (which they know does not necessarily mean they will buy those books!) of books that interested them. After recess, we had our last Literacy Centre time this week-- look forward to brand new literacy centres starting on Monday! Today in gym, we played four-goal soccer! After lunch, we had French, then we showed how many different ways we could create seven in our math journals! We finished the day by creating our Rekenreks (a fun new math tool used to help with counting!). A big thank you to everyone who sent in cardboard so we could make these cool tools!
Mail Pockets:
- no new notices went home, so mail pockets stayed at school
- Book fair wish lists went home in backpacks
Please and Thank You:
- Please consider contributing a pumpkin for the week of October 26-29. (To avoid rotting pumpkins, it is best if they come to school no sooner than this Friday!) We will be exploring estimation and measurement through some very fun pumpkin math! I am hoping to collect at least 2 or 3 more pumpkins, a variety of shapes and sizes
- Please consider contributing a healthy treat for next Thursday afternoon, where we will be enjoying a Halloween celebration! (See below)
Halloween:
Next Thursday, the 29th, students are invited to dress in costume for the afternoon. We will be enjoying fun activities to celebrate Halloween in our classroom. If you would like to help contribute a special snack, we are looking for healthy treats, including fruits and vegetables, crackers, cheese/meat, and one "treat" treat is okay, too! Please email myself or Jodi if interested, and feel free to email me with any questions as well. Thank you!
Volunteer Opportunities:
- I am seeking morning reading volunteers for Monday through Thursday from 8:30-9:00. The students benefit so much from a little extra one-on-one reading time each week, building confidence and a love of reading! This volunteer time may also include supporting letter-sound review, as well as sharing "just right" books. If interested, please email myself ([email protected]) or Jodi ([email protected]) with the weekday(s) that works best for you! Thanks very much!
Library Exchange:
This week we did not have library exchange because of the book fair, which our class was scheduled to visit during our usual exchange time, Wednesday morning. You can still return your books!
Upcoming Dates:
- Oct. 22-23 – Parent/Teacher Conferences; Scholastic Book Fair!
- Oct. 30 – PD Day – NO SCHOOL
- Nov. 25 – Field Trip – Arts Commons
Daily Challenge:
The grade ones are becoming fabulous printers, and it is showing in their journal writing, too! We have been focusing on the "bounce letters" this week: n, m, r, h, b, and p. Can you teach your family how to print them? Which is your favourite to print, and why?
