Highlights of the Day:
Welcome back from the five-day weekend! We began our day by brainstorming as a group "places" that we can go to find ideas to help us write (i.e. personal experiences, books, things we like, things we are afraid of, etc.). We then created "Idea Envelopes" to store some of these ideas for later when we do our journal writing! After recess, we wrote in our math journals about "if we could have 100 of anything, what would it be?". In phys ed., we played some fun active games to get our heart rates up! After lunch, we had fun matching instruments to sound clips in Music! We
learned a new math game called "Race to Twenty", where we got to practice our "counting on" strategy, and finished our day by learning the next level up in our game: "Race to 100!"
Please and Thank You / Volunteer Opportunities:
- We would love to have morning reading volunteers to share books with students one-on-one, from 8:30-9:00 any day that it works for you!
- We would very much appreciate volunteers during literacy centers: Tuesday and Thursday from 10:45 - 11:30, and Wednesday and Friday from 9:00 - 9:30. Thanks for considering!
Byblo’s Visit – Feb. 25th
This is for Grade ones and not kindergarten as stated on the calendar.
We will be looking for donations of fillings like, shredded lettuce, slices of/diced tomatoes, sliced cucumbers, meats/sausages, shredded cheese, jam, etc. We will be coming up with a more comprehensive list as we talk about healthy foods that can be put in a pita pocket. I do ask that we do not bring in Nutella or peanut butter due to allergy precautions.
Feb. 18th - 100th Day of School Celebration:
I recognize (and apologize!) that February is a more request-heavy month, and sincerely appreciate your contributions! We will be concocting 100th Day Trail Mix on Thursday, February 18th. We ask that students please bring in a small-sized, non-nut snack item to contribute (roughly 2 or 3 cups should be fine), as well as an egg carton cut down to 10 cups (serving as a ten frame). Students will measure out ten pieces of ten different snacks to enjoy a trail mix of exactly 100! Thank you for your help. The students love to be math chefs!
Some ideas for ingredients include, but are not limited to:
- mini pretzels
- pumpkin seeds
- raisins
- dried cranberries or other dried fruits
- banana chips
- goldfish crackers
- shreddies
- corn bran
- dry roasted beans or peas
- puffed wheat
- corn nuts
- popcorn
- yogurt chips
- bagel crisps
Mail Pockets:
- No new notices so mail pockets stayed at school.
- Home Reading bags went home if returned.
Upcoming Dates:
- Feb. 17 – Fun Lunch – Boston Pizza
- Mar. 2 – Fun Lunch – Booster Juice
- Mar. 16 – Fun Lunch – Taco Time
- Mar. 18 – PD Day – NO SCHOOL
- Mar. 21-28 – Spring Break – NO SCHOOL
Daily Challenge:
Today, we talked about how ideas are like butterflies-- you can't just wait for one to land on you, you have to go looking for them! Where can you go (in your mind) to find ideas?
