WE DAY:
We Day is a local initiative that provides a forum for students in Southern Alberta. As a system, each school is allocated a set number of tickets for students in grades 4-12. At Prince of Wales we have decided to provide this opportunity to our Grade 6 students only. Prince of Wales was provided 16 tickets (we have 35 grade 6 students). Students who wanted to attend We Day wrote a persuasive letter. We worked as team to select the 16 students, based on their letter and how they have demonstrated character and leadership who would attend as ambassadors for Prince of Wales School. Field trip forms will be coming home today with students who will be attending We Day.
Halloween:
Halloween is on Monday, October 31st! Students are welcome to come dressed in costumes all day! The morning will be a typical morning schedule. The afternoon is reserved for classroom celebrations. Each classroom will design their own celebrations. Students are welcome to sign up with the classroom coordinators to bring in a variety healthy snacks or one treat. Please use your best judgement with costumes. No weapons at school.
"Give" PoWer Hour Message:
Dear Students and family members of Prince of Wales school,
Mrs. McKay’s POWer hour is all about giving back and helping others. The first group of people that we have chosen to help live right in our city. We will be collecting winter coats, boots, hats, scarves, mitts, and snow pants that are gently used. These items will be for Syrian Refugees from Keeler school in Calgary, where Ms. Georg is now teaching. The refugees have left their homes with nothing but themselves. (Think about it if you did not have a warm winter coat walking out into the snow). Please bring in sizes for age 4 and up. Please help out! Donations can be brought to Mrs. McKay’s classroom,
Please have all donations here by November 4 2016

Daily Challenge:
In math, we practiced a different way to represent numbers, using expanded notation. How would you write the number 598, 756 using expanded notation? We also worked on rounding-- what would it be if your rounded this number to the nearest 1,000?
