WE DAY:
Our class is preparing for WE DAY. Sixteen of our Grade 6 students will be chosen to attend We Day. Part of this process is writing a persuasive letter to their teacher discussing reasons they feel they are good candidates to attend We Day. Grade 5 students are also reflecting on this and writing letters why they believe they will be good candidates next year! This is definitely a difficult process and we would love to be able to take all of the Grade 6 students to We Day.
Halloween:
Halloween is on Monday, October 31st! Students are welcome to come dressed in costumes all day! The morning will be a typical morning schedule. The afternoon is reserved for classroom celebrations. Each classroom will design their own celebrations. Students are welcome to sign up with the classroom coordinators to bring in a variety healthy snacks or one treat. Please use your best judgement with costumes. No weapons at school.
"Give" PoWer Hour Message:
Dear Students and family members of Prince of Wales school,
Mrs. McKay’s POWer hour is all about giving back and helping others. The first group of people that we have chosen to help live right in our city. We will be collecting winter coats, boots, hats, scarves, mitts, and snow pants that are gently used. These items will be for Syrian Refugees from Keeler school in Calgary, where Ms. Georg is now teaching. The refugees have left their homes with nothing but themselves. (Think about it if you did not have a warm winter coat walking out into the snow). Please bring in sizes for age 4 and up. Please help out! Donations can be brought to Mrs. McKay’s classroom,
Please have all donations here by November 4 2016

Daily Challenge:
In math, we reviewed how to re-group numbers when we are subtracting (as many students as difficulties remembering how to do it during our last math problem). What are some different ways you could represent the number 5,323? Could you use just groups of tens? hundreds?
