Highlights of the Day:
We began our day with "author's chair" where two of our budding authors shared their stories with the class! We then had some time for journal writing-- some of us choosing to use the ideas we generated yesterday for inspiration! We then had a special guest, Ms. Purkiss, come in to talk to us about Glassman (an unthinkable who gets into kids' brains and makes them have huge reactions to small problems!). She also read us the book "What if Everyone Did That?" and we discussed how our behaviour impacts the people around us! After recess, we had music followed by some more fun games in phys ed.! After lunch, we had free centres! During our math lesson, while looking at some base 10 blocks, a student asked: "is there really 100 squares on the flat one?" so we changed gears and explored ways we could prove how many squares there actually were! We finished the day by exploring a 100-dot array and highlighting all the different numbers we could find!
Please and Thank You / Volunteer Opportunities:
- We would love to have morning reading volunteers to share books with students one-on-one, from 8:30-9:00 any day that it works for you!
- We would very much appreciate volunteers during literacy centers: Tuesday and Thursday from 10:45 - 11:30, and Wednesday and Friday from 9:00 - 9:30. Thanks for considering!
Byblo’s Visit – Feb. 25th
This is for Grade ones and not kindergarten as stated on the calendar.
We will be looking for donations of fillings like, shredded lettuce, slices of/diced tomatoes, sliced cucumbers, meats/sausages, shredded cheese, jam, etc. We will be coming up with a more comprehensive list as we talk about healthy foods that can be put in a pita pocket. I do ask that we do not bring in Nutella or peanut butter due to allergy precautions.
Feb. 18th - 100th Day of School Celebration:
I recognize (and apologize!) that February is a more request-heavy month, and sincerely appreciate your contributions! We will be concocting 100th Day Trail Mix tomorrow. We ask that students please bring in a small-sized, non-nut snack item to contribute (roughly 2 or 3 cups should be fine), as well as an egg carton cut down to 10 cups (serving as a ten frame). Students will measure out ten pieces of ten different snacks to enjoy a trail mix of exactly 100! Thank you for your help. The students love to be math chefs!
Some ideas for ingredients include, but are not limited to:
- mini pretzels
- pumpkin seeds
- raisins
- dried cranberries or other dried fruits
- banana chips
- goldfish crackers
- shreddies
- corn bran
- dry roasted beans or peas
- puffed wheat
- corn nuts
- popcorn
- yogurt chips
- bagel crisps
Mail Pockets:
- Immunization notices (if applicable).
- Home Reading bags went home if returned.
Upcoming Dates:
- Mar. 2 – Fun Lunch – Booster Juice
- Mar. 16 – Fun Lunch – Taco Time
- Mar. 18 – PD Day – NO SCHOOL
- Mar. 21-28 – Spring Break – NO SCHOOL
Daily Challenge:
Today, we talked about Glassman (and how he shatters when he gets angry)-- what is a strategy you could use to defeat Glassman?
